Why We Created the EnviroRating Sustainability Score
The EnviroRating sustainability score is Envirowise’s response to an ongoing challenge: many products claim to be sustainable—but rarely back it up with data.
Because of greenwashing, consumers and businesses often struggle to understand what is truly eco-friendly.
To change that, we created a transparent, science-based scoring system that evaluates the real environmental impact of every product we offer.
Why Traditional “Eco” Labels Fall Short
The market is flooded with claims like “green”, “compostable”, or “eco-friendly”. However, these terms often lack clear definitions and measurable standards.
As a result, choosing genuinely sustainable products has become unnecessarily complicated.
We believe that sustainability must be backed by facts, not fluff.
What Is the EnviroRating Sustainability Score?
EnviroRating is a product scoring system based on measurable life-cycle data. It evaluates products across six environmental criteria, each scored from 0 (low) to 10 (high).
Unlike marketing claims, every score is supported by data—not assumptions. We work closely with suppliers to verify information and ensure transparency.
The Six Criteria Behind Every Score
To ensure a comprehensive assessment, each EnviroRating sustainability score includes the following categories:
1. Plastic-Free Content
Does the product contain any synthetic polymers?
→ A score of 10 means 100% plastic-free and microplastic-safe.
2. Carbon Footprint
How does the product’s greenhouse gas output compare to conventional plastic?
→ A higher score means lower emissions.
3. Resource Consumption
How much water and energy are needed to produce the product?
→ Products with minimal resource use score higher.
4. Recyclability / Biodegradability
Can the product be recycled or naturally decomposed—without industrial processing?
→ Naturally compostable products get top marks.
5. Durability
Does it last as long or longer than its plastic counterpart—at a lower ecological cost?
6. Material Origin
Are the raw materials fossil-based or renewable?
→ Fully bio-based products (like bamboo or seaweed) score highest.
These scores are not generated automatically. Instead, every product undergoes an individual review supported by Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) data.
What Makes EnviroRating Valuable?
The EnviroRating sustainability score helps both consumers and suppliers by:
✔ Empowering Informed Choices
With clear scores, anyone can understand a product’s environmental performance—no expertise required.
✔ Ensuring Product Integrity
We apply the same scientific standard across all products. That builds trust.
✔ Encouraging Innovation
By showing where a product could do better, EnviroRating motivates suppliers to reduce impact and improve design.
Turning Data into Action
Sustainability should be easy to understand and act on. That’s why EnviroRating translates complex data into clear numbers.
By choosing high-rated, plastic-free products, you reduce your footprint—without needing to be an expert in environmental science.
We Keep It Honest—and Updated
Every EnviroRating is based on the latest available data from suppliers and third-party studies.
When better data or improved methods become available, we update our scores. That way, our commitment to transparency stays strong.
